Life In Arpeggio Co-Programmes An Electronic-Focused Stage For Sing60 Music Festival

Singapore’s pretty great – you’ve heard it loud and clear from the resounding hoo-hah of the country’s 60-year gaieties. Gaze deeper into the dense ecosystem of Singapore’s electronic music scene, and you’ll ascertain that that’s mighty dope too. Life In Arpeggio has been a shameless advocate of this fact for years; we’ll throw hands with anyone who posits that ‘our scene is dead’. It’s why we’re venturing beyond just words one more time and taking part in the Sing60 Music Festival as a programming partner. You read that right – Life In Arpeggio is part of this historic spectacle.

The mission of this massive undertaking at Fort Canning is somewhat self-explanatory, but nevertheless, we’re chuffed to announce that it’s essentially a full-blown, zero-chill showcase of Singapore’s music heritage in the last 60 years. A two-day extravaganza with three programme strands – including ours – Sing60 is a counterstance against anyone who still thinks we have any sort of scene scarcity. It’s also a thematic follow-up to the Sing50 event back in 2015, reviving the concept with an evolved encore festival.

Now is that a whopping lineup or what? (Credit: Courtesy of Sing60)

So where does Life In Arpeggio come in? Together with creative producer and scene mainstay Esther Goh, we are co-programming “Bunker B2B” at Fort Canning’s Battlebox, transforming the preserved WWII bunker into an electronic playground. With intergenerational connection plugged into the core of our programming, we’ve cooked up a lineup that honours both veteran DJs, producers and electronic-inclined musicians and younger talents cut from the same cloth. The twist? Every set is a B2B showcase between performers across generations, promising rare pairings and serendipitous transitions that you won’t catch at a conventional party.

Here are the B2B pairs we’ve got lined up on 6 and 7 December at the Battlebox:

  • Daryl Knows B2B Mako

  • Ollie Des B2B HBN

  • INTRGNT (FKA Intriguant) B2B Sgstingray (live set)

  • Durio B2B Nydthakid

  • Ferng B2B GTHB

  • Debbia Chia B2B The Weatherman (ambient set)

  • Jean Reiki B2B Mervin Wong (ambient set)

  • Aldrin B2B Loyboy

  • EJ Missy B2B Taz Angullia

  • sl_owtalk B2B deførmed (live set)

  • Darren Dubwise B2B DJ New Masculine

  • Aresha B2B Krstn

  • Itch B2B Sadat (vinyl set)

  • KiDG B2B Bongomann (vinyl set)

Stacked, huh? Two rooms, 14 pairings, 28 performers, endless possibilities in every performance. No sound is out of bounds and all partygoers are welcome.

“Bunker B2B” is just one part of Sing60, with other musical programmes lined up beyond the Battlebox. Outside at Fort Canning Green, the “Homegrown Icons” segment will feature Singaporean solo musicians such as Charlie Lim, Benjamin Kheng, Corrinne May, Dru Chen, Iman Fandi, lullaboy, Shye and more; performing their original music and covers of pivotal local music. Also at the green is “Bandwagon Sessions”, where the music media platform hosts a roster of indie and alternative bands that’ve shaped the live circuit, including The Great Spy Experiment, A Vacant Affair, Tiramisu, Pleasantry, Caracal, sub:shaman and others.

Aside from music, Sing60 is collaborating with F Zine (FKA Female Magazine) to curate the Festival Village, a lively marketplace showcasing food, crafts, fashion and lifestyle brands with a ‘Made In Singapore’ spirit.

Organised by The Rice Company and produced by Global Cultural Alliance, Sing60 is all set to be one for the books. And we’re darn proud to be part of it. You know where to find us!
