Bunker By Night 2025: The Battlebox Gig Inside A Fort Canning WWII Bunker Is Back

How ‘underground’ do you fancy your gigs? Loosely reinterpreting that definition is the Bunker By Night concept, a music and arts pop-up infiltrating the unlikely yet immersively apropos hideout of a preserved World War II bunker. A recurring event initiative by Global Cultural Alliance held at Fort Canning’s Battlebox, it transforms the historical attraction into a nightlife conversation starter, and it’s bringing more artillery for its upcoming antics on 5 and 6 September.

The two-day experiment – programmed by Andy Chia from SAtheCollective – stays true to its avant-garde roots, eschewing more conventional sounds for an unorthodox audio blueprint. On the first day, the fortified habitat turns into a dwelling of darkness, with performances from the notorious dark alternative music collective, Blacklight Tribe. From goth and aggrotech to sinister techno, this collective of oddities spews soundtracks that energise despite their sullen nature.
And on the second day, guests are treated to a different kind of Battlebox excursion. The bunker will be taken over by multidisciplinary performances, comprising combos of Gelap (Andy Chia, Andy Yang & Ezzam Rahman), Natalie Alexandra & Marla Bendini, Very Shy Gurl Collective (Noor Effendy Ibrahim, Rosemainy Buang, Syafiqah 'Adha Sallehin) and the Singapore Butoh Collective. Visitors will be given wireless headsets for this experience, allowing them to navigate the disparate sound spells in a seamless and harmonious manner. The sound is shaped by the space you’re in.
