Noble intentions don’t go unnoticed in our local electronic scene, especially when it comes to providing a performance platform for our ever-growing community of homegrown DJs. When he’s not steering his own musical pursuits, Suffyan Safi – who’s helmed resident DJ duties for RASA and Wild Pearl – he pens a love letter to the scene in the form of the online Shutter Rhythms series. Launched in the tail end of last year, Shutter Rhythms caught our attention with its DJ performances filmed inside a hawker centre stall. And while Suffyan has moved on from that head-turning concept, Shutter Rhythms has continued to garner momentum as a recorded showcase for deck talents including the likes of Kins, Krstn, Hammy and Koonz.

But for the first time, Shutter Rhythms now takes it offline with its inaugural physical gathering, unveiling its new headquarters at Node which happens to be a ‘co-lab studio’ in Ruby Industrial Complex – and don’t we all our dig our industrial shindigs. From 2pm to 9pm, Shutter Rhythms’ get-together – officially titled “Service to the Music, Music’s for the People” – sports a full programme for easy listening and dancey antics, with some fringe activities and DJ discoveries on the side.

Expect laidback vinyl voyages with unearthed picks from Sadat and the up-and-coming GROOVESOFNANYANG, before things get bouncy and cruisy with Debbie Chia, Halal Sol and Mako. Boujee Botanicals will be serving their invigorating elixirs, Lifted Trax will be peddling records for sale, Musings in the Murkyway conducts a floral workshop, and venue host Node’s even setting up a silkscreen t-shirt station. And because Shutter Rhythms is all about spotlighting rising talent, it even kicks off with an open-deck session; so aspiring selectors, time to finally whip out that USB hiding in your back pocket.

“This year-end gathering is a combination of various intentions for what I’m doing with Shutter Rhythms,” shares Suffyan on his series’ growth and the path ahead. “After heavily investing in better gear with the goal of taking this passion project to the next level, this event which coincides with the opening of Node (our studio landlord) is also an opportunity to invite music heads to an intimate, raw space which I believe, with a good curation of a range of activities, can turn into something physically beautiful for everyone to come down and experience from time to time, away from our sets simply being up on Instagram, Youtube and Soundcloud.”
