Proof that you can acquire global clout from our tiny city, this Singapore-based Scottish export has done it again. Nino Blink is no stranger to our local DJ circuit with past performances for Manifest, Thugshop and FOMOHOMO, but he’s particularly been on a roll lately exhibiting his prowess as a techno producer. Nino’s been upping his social media game for the past year documenting his progress with his evolving sound, behind-the-scenes DAW work and sharing his influences through personal vinyl picks. That also includes sharing the success of his various releases, and his latest brainchild – the Slag EP – is already climbing up the echelons of the techno world.
A short but potent two-track EP, Slag finds Nino Blink returning to Night Light Records – co-founded by industry stalwarts Sinisa Tamamovic and Mladen Tomic – that pushed out his Pulsar EP earlier this year. Slag begins with its title track, setting the premise with hammering springy kicks and dicing hi-hats, stretched by suspenseful chord pads that create tension and a minimal synth note loop that radiates like a luminous signal through the darkness. Nino then releases that tension with “Savage”, an instant dancefloor booster with peaktime deliciousness. It does the trick nice and easy with its rolling beat structure, growling bass blares, and a melange of variegated synth insertions that enhance the textures of techno he’s come to master.

Despite its recent release, Slag has already received support from the likes of Dax J, Paco Osuna, Pan-Pot, Richie Hawtin and Sam Divine. And it’s even rose through the coveted Beatport ranks to reach the winning half of its Top 100 Techno Releases. Doing our scene proud, Nino.
