GIVE. & Thugshop Recreate The Industry-Breaking ‘Face To Face’ DJ Format In Singapore

You’ve probably seen this outrageous DJ performance format on social media by now – why go back-to-back when you can go face-to-face? In case you haven’t been initiated, the concept pairs ‘sparring’ DJs on separate setups that face each other, encouraging them to take turns playing the next song while creating a cohesive experience overall. It sounds manic, and frankly it looks even wilder with a stage area that’s essentially double the size and audiences ‘picking’ their sides. It’s since become a phenomenon popularised by the Germany-founded 240 KM/H with their “FACE 2 FACE” series, and Singapore is now getting in on the action.
The face-to-face format is now being tested out in the local scene thanks to this collaboration between nightlife pioneers Thugshop and the new GIVE. collective helmed by hard techno maverick Joshua Dillon. Called GIVE : FACE, the deck-duelling format will take place in the versatile habitat of MDLR on 5 September. And paying homage to the aggressive sounds that kicked off this trend, GIVE : FACE is inaugurating its arrival with a fitting roster of homegrown hard-hitters.
On the lineup are four pairs of showdowns, brandishing a fresh wave of talents who’ve been torching the scene with their beastly firepower. Vinnie Stew goes face-to-face with Meliah, representing the AltBPM crew. Also affiliated with AltBPM is PXXL, who contends with the 4xF tag-team of Rocky Chann and Horseboy. Chrysi faces Øbsidian in a cantankerous clash between the O.M.E.N co-founders. And GIVE. chief Joshua Dillon draws swords with 44AUXX, also from AltBPM. It’s gonna get sweaty and bumpy with all these thwompy beats and destructive rhythms. But more importantly, whose side will you stand on?
