With the notoriously haywire motto of ‘Give Die’, Joshua Dillon is not exactly the chilliest of artists. The scene is well aware of this, having witnessed his belligerent antics with his hard techno club residencies and unruly pop-ups – the DJ-promoter-producer even has an upcoming initiative called GIVE. in the pipeline. He’s been instrumental in bridging local nightlife communities gravitating towards that sweet spot between underground and mainstream techno, and he’s amplifying that influence with a new production in his bag.

Freshly released on the Unchained record label – by Australian hard techno peer Moji – is “Brain Damage”, and it’s the kind of rabid track that will make your medulla oblongata go ooh-la-la. Off the bat it wallops with deathly cavern kicks and chopped, pitched-up vocal samples, before entering a climax of screeching synths synonymous with the global hard techno insurgence. The track even teases cheeky hints of rawstyle, baile funk and jungle with its percussion switch-ups, showing the playfulness of Joshua Dillon as a producer.

“Instead of the normal dark vibes given to the track, I tried to infuse more percussive and fun elements to the track,” Joshua shares with us. “It’s called ‘Brain Damage’ due to how hard it is but also because it was created to be an catchy anthem, almost like an itch you can’t resist to scratch in your head.” Whatever you’re doing, this piece will instantly disconnect you the moment you hit play, like a thwack of techno lobotomy.
