The roar of reggae culture continues to resonate across the Lion City, and the roots of this adoration can be traced back to the dedication of pioneering purveyors, Dub Skank’in Hifi Soundsystem. Pushing reggae-themed parties in Singapore and all its affiliated sounds like dub, dancehall, rocksteady and ska, Dub Skank’in Hifi Soundsystem has been fostering the Rastafarian spirit as early as 2012, building a hearty community while bridging sounds and subcultures. Its signature Bass Rebels parties are indicative of that, demonstrating that reggae – despite its niche nature – can work hand in hand and heat up dancefloors beat after beat with other favoured low-end genres.

The year-end edition of Bass Rebels is happening on 20 December at Blu Jaz Café’s flagship outlet at Bali Lane, a storied haunt for seasoned bass heads in the scene. It carries the series’ tradition of collaborating with external DJs and collectives, this time uniting the disciplines of dub, d&b, dubstep and bass as a whole. Rumbling basslines, oscillating wobbles, subby vibrations and swift tempos, this one’s got it all. Launching this bass assault is the lineup of HBN and HZQ from Last Saturdays, Scondah, B10N and Dub Skankin’ co-founder and resident, Rumshot. And with a cherry on top, this Bass Rebels is headlined by PELE FYAH, acclaimed bassist from the Grammy-nominated roots reggae band, Raging Fyah. He’ll be performing a live dub set, channelling works from his F.Y.A.H. (Free Your Authentic Heart) project that preserves while innovating his love for reggae.
