Modal Marks Its First-Year Anniversary With The Techno Forte Of Tommy Four Seven

Singaporeans love their techno; that’s a fact. Yet despite its rising popularity, you still have few pop-up party collectives solely dedicated to the layered genre that goes beyond expectations of industrial 4/4 bangers. Uncompromising in this mission is Modal, the event promoters who’ve shown that techno can be a complex, chimeric beast spanning minimalistic expeditions, melodious joyrides, dubby labyrinths and scattered broken beat wastelands. The world of techno is boundless, and Modal is keeping the door wide open for you.

Launched in May 2022, Modal first emerged with a clandestine gig (no photos and videos were allowed) at Projector X in partnership with local techno label, Midnight Shift. With a series of seasonal gigs located primarily at Iki, Modal’s invited revellers to experience the expanse of techno from rotating lineups. They’ve included performances from Modal residents Jehm, Haan and Kyrian Reign; all-female ensembles featuring AYA, Vix and Bella; and even appearances from foreign acts like SuplexD and Answer Code Request. Now one year later, Modal is bringing down yet another international booking to commemorate the occasion with guns a-blazing.

Headlining Modal’s first-year anniversary event is Berlin-based veteran, Tommy Four Seven, whose techno ammunition has fired upon global spectacles such as Awakenings and Atonal. As an artist, the selector is known for his slamming sets buffed with amorphous rhythms and hypnotising sequences. Tommy Four Seven is also the chieftain of his own 47 imprint, which has been a launchpad for releases from other hard-hitting acts like Ancient Methods, Headless Horseman and SNTS. And to further accentuate the brutal barrage of the evening’s entertainment, this anniversary bash will be held at Haw Par Villa, the perfect demon lair for all you party monsters.
