The fantasy of restoring the state of electronic music festivals in our strict country is still very much a pipe dream. There has been dismal progress on the path of its permitted revival; a bleak cul-de-sac that’s stubbornly impeded the scene’s survival. In spite of this lacklustre situation, the troopers behind the Legacy Music Festival team are now standing valiantly in the vanguard, administering a shot of adrenaline to the heart of the industry with its latest announcement. On 17 and 18 December 2021, the Singapore-founded festival is circling back for its third run, partaking in yet another sprint in the digital space.

Following the success of last year’s online edition which racked up over 100,000 views in two days, Legacy Music Festival 2021 is back at it with a few tricks up its sleeve. Aside from live-streaming DJ acts from its studio, the event will showcase specially produced sets recorded offsite at various venues such as the shores of Sentosa and even atop a yacht. The whole programme will be streamed for free on Mixcloud, but the festival’s substantial roster of sponsors is ensuring that local acts are getting funded – hear, hear.

Speaking of the festival’s acts, Legacy resumes its mixed curation of homegrown and international names. Locally, the diversity speaks for itself. You have industry mainstays like Aldrin and Inquistive, A/K/A Sounds with her arsenal of bass, Masia One with the hip-hop flow, Erwin Linden on the techno train, EATMEPOPTART with the indie goodies, Doppelgangerz with their commercial-tinted house, The Infamous who’s known for aggressive dubstep and numerous others like Farah Farz, Tinc, Benedict & Palmer and the AOS Soundsystem. As for global acts, the roster covers everything from big room to trance with names like Mark Sixma, Firebeatz, Eli & Fur and Dimatik.

Legacy Music Festival continues a streak that began in 2019. Helmed by DJ Andrew T who also founded the pivotal AOS Collective, the event filled a lacuna when the annual ZoukOut announced that it was pulling out of the regional festival circuit after 18 years. With the opportunity ripe for the taking, Legacy launched its inaugural edition in December 2019 at Siloso Beach, attracting big guests like Tiësto, Cosmic Gate, Zedd and Oliver Heldens.
