Fruit Basket Vol. 2: The Gig Series Returns With An Indie-/Pride-Themed Two-Day Show

I don’t think anyone expected the manic response to the launch show of Fruit Basket earlier in April. Kicked off by spikyfruits, the sister imprint of Where Are The Fruits, the gig series basically tore the roof off *SCAPE with its spontaneous, sweaty mosh-fest. The arrival of Fruit Basket represented a much-needed rejuvenation for the scene, one that endured a blanket shutdown of live concerts; let alone the sightings of crowd surfers. It signified an impassioned comeback, one united by a collective sense of relief and amity. If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, a Fruit Basket gig keeps the gloom at bay.

Following the success of its inaugural show, Where Are The Fruits is taking the reins on the series’ sophomore edition, titled Fruit Basket Vol. 2: Indie Pride. Upgrading the performance venue to The Ground Theatre at *SCAPE, this gig will be held across two days this time on 24 and 25 June, showcasing a different curation of music from 7pm to 10pm. Each evening will also feature several signees from both labels’ artiste rosters, alongside other fresh faces in the scene.

The soundtrack on the 24th sets the tone with a dominantly indie-centric lineup. Performances include the jazz-tinted r&b explorations of nkei, the nimble math-rock of cues, and the anthemic indie-rock of The New Modern Lights and household names, M1LDL1FE. While on the 25th, the vibe segues into a more intimate direction with a focus on pro-LGBTQ+ singer-songwriters. Expressing their emotions of ‘pride’ will be an ensemble of r&b, folk and pop storytellers, showcasing Marian Carmel, lewloh and aeriqah.
