Chilly ice factory raves. Spectacles in isolated industrial warehouses. Fiestas perched atop carparks. And even a new F&B establishment cooking up everything from boozy brunches to contemporary tapas. The sonorous legacy of Thugshop (FKA The Council) continues to resonate through the scene even after all these years, standing its ground and hitting back hard against the pandemic with the comeback of its venues, Headquarters, Upstairs, Tuff Club and Eat Sum Thing. Small statements are uncharacteristic of these resilient thugs, and they’re now about to make another sonic boom with a new, bigger concept – one aptly called XXL.

Situated in the heart of the CBD at 62 Cecil Street, XXL is a fresh series that amplifies and magnifies the tireless vision of Thugshop. XXL is prepped to go big in every aspect; think a bigger dancefloor with a capacity of 500, a bigger audial experience with a Martin Audio sound system, bigger sights with guest visual artists, and even bigger international acts that include techno heavyweights like Boris and DVS1. We’ve already gotten wind of some of the other guest DJs lined up for the months ahead, and let’s just say that these headliners will leave you knocked out.

Inspired by top-tier electronic parties around the globe, XXL is set to be “an immersive series on a mission to ‘upsize’ the underground electronic music experience” according to chief thug, Clement Chin. XXL will kick off on 11 February with an all-local lineup of Thugshop’s techno troopers – encompassing the walloping selections of Ma De, Deen and Vaibs – and accompanied by the visual magic of Flex.

In a time where local party venues are becoming a scarce resource, Thugshop has pulled off a miraculous super move with this rare find. And they’re now sharing the joys of their discovery as they open the doors to you at XXL. Like they always say, go big yeah?
