You never know what’s gonna blast out from the smoking guns of Thugshop. Its flagship address at 66 Boat Quay has been a melting pot of numerous aspirations, from morphing into a snack bar concept during the pandemic to launching its Sunny Side Up boozy brunch series. Now that its two upper storeys have finally resumed operations as club venues, Headquarters and Upstairs, one burning question remains: is Thugshop cooking up something on the ground floor? The answer is a resounding yes, and that affirmation has shaped into a brand new restaurant and bar called Eat Sum Thing.

Eat Sum Thing sports an open kitchen where you can watch its head chef in action

Defined as a riverside F&B locale that serves elevated contemporary tapas, Eat Sum Thing is Thugshop’s newest foray into the culinary domain, and it’s not doing this with lacklustre efforts. Helming the venue’s gastronomic identity is ex-Les Amis Chef, Brandon Lee, whom you can watch flashing his forte from an open kitchen. The fit-for-sharing, fusion dishes are served tapas-style, and they include seasonal epicurean delights like Japanese Plum Oysters, Crab Toast, Prosciutto Eclairs, Grilled Chicken with Cauliflower & Zucchini, and Yuzu Kosho Scallops. There are also bigger mains for those with more ravenous appetites, and those include an Atlantic Cod slow-cooked in fish broth, and the Ojo de Bife which translates to an Argentinian grain-fed ribeye steak.

Thugshop takes pride in the curation of its venues like Headquarters and Tuff Club, and you’ll find that Eat Sum Thing is no exception. The hangout has a back-to-basics approach in its design language, with exposed brickwork walls and industrial-chic textures throughout. Art plays a significant role in enhancing the space, and you’ll see this influence in the various commissioned artworks by mixed-media artist, Eduardo Enrique, as well as the contemporary wall illustrations of pop culture icons – like Grace Jones, The Prodigy and David Bowie – by Brazilian artist, Butcher Billy. Eat Sum Thing has both indoor and alfresco seating arrangements by the Singapore River, so you can pick an environment suited to your social agenda, whether it’s a laidback chill-out or a more intimate catch-up.

No Thugshop setting is complete without a focused musical philosophy. Likewise, Eat Sum Thing delivers a fitting pre-game soundtrack (before you head on up to its dancefloors) while you devour your grub and chug your drinks. As a champion of local music selectors, Eat Sum Thing cranks out specially mixed sets from a handpicked assortment of homegrown DJs. Don’t be surprised if you fall in love with a nu-disco boogie, get a splash of deep house or even slip into a trip-hop tizzy. You won’t find any vanilla tunage here. Would you expect anything different from the Thugshop professionals?

So head on down and stumble upon a rare earworm. Tuck into your favourite comfort food. Or establish new connections (or rekindle old ones) in this bustling hideout in the heart of the city. Eat Sum Thing has crafted just the right vibe for you, and the thugs of Thugshop welcome you.
