If good ol’ rock music still scratches that itch in the back of your brain, then you’d favour traditionalists like Hijack Hayley. For the past couple of years, the Singaporean indie-rock outfit has been putting out no-frills, noughties-inclined earworms with millennial appeal, harking back to a distant yet hardly-forgotten musical niche. With nearly a dozen releases in their repertoire and high-profile gigs at IGNITE!, Baybeats, F1 Singapore and even in Japan, Hijack Hayley – now with a refreshed lineup – is on the cusp of releasing their upcoming full-length, People Pleaser. And to break the ice, they’ve carved out the LP’s first single, “Bodies”.

It's the kind of poised track you’d imagine swaggering down a street in slow-motion to, synonymous with the band’s chiselled charisma that naturally oozes from their tracks. Vocalist and frontman, Terence Tan, delivers his go-to blend of nasally flippant vocals tinged with weathered raspiness. It’s armed with burly bass licks and tough-as-nails drumwork, together with old-school Oasis-esque guitar riffs that up the attitude. Overall, it’s a crusty and gravelly rock number with just the right amount of stylish tarnish like your favourite pair of worn-out jeans.

“With the inclusion of Hijack Hayley’s new members, we are moving at a more impactful pace, as a band and as a brand too,” the band shares on their path forward. “Creatively, we often find ourselves in pockets of musical epiphany when the four of us meet up. And that fuels an entire new process for us a band.”
