The jubilation of partying has always been an escape, and there’s no promoter that knows this better than the Blackout Agency. Zig Zach’s promotion entity hasn’t been pulling punches since the resumption of nightlife activities, especially with the return of its Ritual series last year and its astounding residency run at Iki, featuring guest selectors like Gerd Janson, Kornél Kovács and Radio Slave to name a few. The man’s been busy leaving dents in our scene despite expanding his operations in Bali, but it turns out he’s still been saving one special move. Blackout’s now about to unleash another signature manoeuvre – it’s the return of Escape 56.

Launched in 2016, Escape 56 marks the collaboration between Blackout Agency and Jägermeister, a pop-up series that’s roamed across an assortment of habitats with big names in tow. Highlights have included peak acts like Roman Flügel and Âme, and the Singaporean debuts of more niche artists like Red Axes and Marvin & Guy. Back in 2019, Escape 56 was even selected by Singapore Tourism Board to be an official part of the F1 celebrations when it brought down the revered Henrik Schwarz. Escape 56’s gigs have pumped out everything from space disco and retro Italo, to left-field house and cinematic melodic techno, and for its comeback, it’s now introducing local audiences to a couple of performers that dabble in them all.

Performing on 17 March at a yet-to-be-disclosed secret warehouse is the Mexican dynamic duo, Zombies In Miami. Known for their live formats with gizmos and gadgetry in full sight, the pair spontaneously spew out glistening synth hooks, chugging basslines, analogue-driven beats and even on-the-spot vocals for what’s ultimately an organic display of showmanship. The two are also a fixture in many parts of the global electronic music industry, having played at institutions like Panorama Bar, Vent, Lux Fragil and festivals such as Sonar and Burning Man.

The comeback of Escape 56 is just the tip of the iceberg of Blackout’s big plans for the year ahead. Aside from other returning acts like Roman Flügel slated for Ritual in April, Blackout’s also planning its sixth anniversary bash with a hell-raising theme at a certain ‘notorious theme park’. But for now, just save the date for 17 March for Escape 56. The Zombies In Miami want your brain and bestest dance moves.
