Ever adored someone so much that you wanna murder them in cold blood? Nope, didn’t think so. Yet that is precisely the morbid fantasy dreamt up in the latest music video and single of local alt-rockers, Blush. Washed in obscene pink hues and over-exposed lighting, the MV for “X My Heart” is a visual contradiction to the grim themes in the song – “Cross my heart and I hope to die in this sick sad world that’s never mine”. The lustrous nature of the video, directed by Goh Koon How, is in parallel with the current bright juncture of Blush’s journey, and they’re now proud to announce it to the world.

“X My Heart” is not just a sparkly new single, but the first release from Blush’s sophomore album, Beauty Fades, Pain Lasts Forever, that’s been signed to the New York-based Kanine Records. This news also precedes Blush’s upcoming North American tour that they’re kicking off in August. Blush has even slapped on a fresh coat of paint regarding its lineup, now comprising original members Soffi Peters (vocals) and Daniel Pei (bass) with the addition of Darell Laser (guitar) from Forests. Beauty Fades, Pain Lasts Forever additionally features production magic from Sobs’ Jared Lim, so fans of the local indie scene can expect an A-team effort.

If “X My Heart” is any indication of Blush’s latest phase, fans have nothing to worry about. The track is insouciant but charmingly iridescent, with Soffi’s sugary daydream vocals bobbing above fuzzy grungy guitars. Like the music video, it teases uneasy minor chordal dips that add a tinge of spice. But overall, it’s a refreshing, smoky number packed with a laissez-faire attitude synonymous with the chill Blush blueprint.
