Is techno turning into psytrance? Is psytrance becoming influenced by techno? You might’ve heard inklings of this cross-pollinating relationship between the two genres in recent years, blurring lines and binding communities as demand for both has risen. Shrewd promoters are the ones who can spot the trends, and it looks like 4xF and Therapy Room have gotten the memo with their upcoming collab event, DISJUNCTION.

DISJUNCTION marks a compatible connection between these two scene powerhouses. Plugging profound sounds from the underground, 4xF has been vociferous in plugging the psytrance community with its regular QuantOM events (amongst other themed bashes like the techno-tuned Drumpowder and the house-leaning Uncharted nights). And on the flipside, Therapy Room has been a lighthouse for the DJ circuit since the pandemic struck, evolving from its live broadcasted show format to an event-organising phenomenon of its own. Both have welcomed all genres in their programmes, and for DISJUNCTION, they’ve laid the table for techno and psytrance.

Happening on 24 February at a yet-disclosed secret site (all we know is that it’s a 15-minute stroll from Haw Par Villa MRT) DISJUNCTION promises to deliver two stages and 16 acts till late. 4xF packs the psytrance at the QuantOM stage, with performers that include James Selva, Joshen, Toasty Biskit, and co-founders Cosmo Carbon and Pengsoo. But if techno’s more your jam, then scurry over to Therapy Room’s Paradox Stage that features co-founder Shaun Nocturnals, Muttiah Ashnim, BLAC Koncept from Australia, and Läbraatz who also represents 4xF (as well as Ministry of Hard Techno). Both stages also showcase a slew of upcoming selectors who are cutting their teeth in the scene, so come early to support your potentially new favourite DJ.
