The Legacy Of The Historic 100 Bands Festival Carries On With This Massive 60-Act Gig

Excess isn’t always a notorious quality, especially if you’re showing off the scene’s abundance of homegrown talent. Arguably the most ambitious gig organised by a local promoter, the 100 Bands Festival made a statement back in 2014 with its eponymous premise. True enough, the mammoth-sized endeavour took over the heartlands with a lineup spanning 100 alternative bands playing indie, punk, folk, hardcore, ska, shoegaze and more. It was a statement that snuffed out any pre-existing scepticism about the copious musicality brimming in our city. In fact, the 100 Bands Festival organisers even went on to throw sequel events over the years, with some lineups expanding to 150. Simply put, they showed there’s no shortage of talent here.

After a hiatus following their last event in 2017, they’re now making a comeback to the tune of SG60. While boasting a compressed lineup of 60 alternative acts – still a daunting number if you ask us – the upcoming gig-a-thon scheduled from 13 to 29 June plainly carries the same ethos as before. Hitting the heartlands again at Our Tampines Hub, “60 to 100” (the name of the event) sees curator Razi Razak assembling a stuffed roster with appeal that transcends generations. The lineup’s packing fresh names like Krunkle, Bellied Star, monda(e), Blush, Hijack Hayley and Nosedive. While scene veterans would be glad to reconnect with historic acts such as Cesspit, Typewriter, Plainsunset, Anechois, The Analog Girl and Force Vomit. We’re not even gonna attempt to list all the performing bands here, so just have a look at this poster and be prepared to get nostalgic.

60 bands is alright – yeah, we’ll take 60
