The Silent Disco Phenomenon (AKA The Quietest Rave In Town) Is Finally Returning

Whether you find it as groundbreaking as sliced bread or incredibly cheesy, you can’t deny the phenomenon of Silent Disco. Pre-pandemic, the quietest rave in town swept across the city with its outlandish concept, until it was forced to keep the volume down to zero – for good. But just like the rest of the scene, Silent Disco Asia has joined the ongoing current of reawakening. Silent Disco shall be silent no more, figuratively speaking.

The beloved events concept returns for a comeback run with eight dates across four weekends, commemorating a special partnership with Singapore Airlines’ Pelago. This edition of Silent Disco takes to the skies, boasting a scenic backdrop of the metropolis at Marina Bay Sands’ Observation Deck.

“We are delighted to be working with Pelago and Marina Bay Sands to relaunch Silent Disco, and we have carefully chosen one of the most exclusive venues available in Singapore to host them,” states Franc Gooding, the director of Silent Disco Asia. “The SkyPark Observation Deck is a stunning, and exclusive setting for our super-fun headphone party, and we cannot wait to welcome everyone back onto the dancefloor!”

Just like its past renditions, which have graced big-time festivals such as Neon Lights and i Light Singapore, Silent Disco is back with a three-DJ-three-channel lineup. Participants strap on a pair of illuminated headphones and have the freedom to choose between three coloured channels that feature music from a live DJ. Feel like Bon Jovi or Nirvana? Flick to green. Prefer Guetta or Calvin Harris? Red’s your vibe. Or perhaps you’re more of a Dua Lipa or Taylor Swift diehard, then blue’s your hue.

It’s always a kick to see which colour ends up dominating the dancefloor, prompting others to switch channels instantly and join the tribe. Or you could always stick to your guns and stay in your lane, and possibly start a growing movement with your party shade. The direction of Silent Disco can swing in any direction at any time of the night, and that’s the fascinating beauty of this entertaining concept.

P.S. Remember to remove your headphones at some point and take in how ridiculous everyone looks. You’ll thank me later.
