You can’t have a healthy scene without acknowledging the creative momentum of the youth. That’s what’s made *SCAPE a seminal institution since its launch in 2007, and today, it continues to be an iridescent lighthouse for the community with its youth-conscious activities that support homegrown music, arts, culture and beyond. That’s exactly what spurred on comma, *SCAPE’s creative arts festival that kick-started in December to foster youths’ inspiration and imagination with a series of events.

Part of this programme is Music Day Out, the flagship music festival of comma co-organised by *SCAPE and Steady State Records, a music consultancy founded by David Siow (Club Mild, SGMUSO). Disruption is the core theme of Music Day Out, highlighting performers who’ve been known for their fearlessness and innovation in the region.

Happening on 13 and 14 January at *SCAPE’s Ground Theatre, Music Day Out will showcase 16 underground acts spanning a spectrum of indie genres. Local performers include the alt-rock rush of Blush, the math-pop intricacies of Woes, the hardcore assault of Fuse, the indie-pop serenades of Regina Song, the experimental rock antics of Spider and more. You can also expect regional entrants in the mix, including Indonesia’s Leipzig, Philippines’ Gabba and Malaysia’s NO GOOD. Music Day Out also features two guest programmers – youth music collective Dirty Window supporting monda(e) and Approaching Aphelion, and rave promoters Endless Return supporting Prontaxan from Indonesia.

As a champion of music industry knowledge, Music Day Out will additionally host a couple of sharing sessions and workshops for inquisitive attendees. Topics will touch on the ups and downs of tour life, as well as anecdotes and wild stories from artists behind the scenes.

Passion in the music industry always needs to be cultivated amongst the youth. Music Day Out is keeping that journey going.
