An ironclad legacy is one that sticks around, and keeping its presence felt in the local scene is The Esplanade’s Mosaic brand. Mosaic first planted its roots as a multi-day music festival that ran from 2005 to 2014, throwing a hodgepodge of gigs across the art institution’s various stages. Aside from hosting local and regional acts, Mosaic Music Festival also brought down international names like Broken Social Scene, Kings of Convenience, The Go! Team, Rachael Yamagata, Los Campesinos, Grizzly Bear and countless more. Its departure from the festival circuit continues to weigh heavily, yet it preserves its philosophy with seasonal pop-up gigs under the Mosaic name. Even in a time of crisis when gig culture is threatened, Mosaic remains present to keep the music alive.

The esteemed brand has now brought back the 2021 edition of its Mosaic Music Series, a set of live concerts featuring homegrown artistes. You can witness the long-awaited debut of soultronica sonic force, Bitty (1 October), who embarks on her first gig under her new moniker. Neo-jazz spellbinders, The Steve McQueens (28 and 29 October), launch their upcoming fifth album. The overflowing, pop-savvy talent of Dru Chen (12 November) fills the Esplanade Concert Hall with the aid of fellow singer-songwriter, Rangga Jones. And get whisked away on “an adventure of cosmic proportions” by the dreamy, beefy sounds of Saints Amongst Sinners (13 November) as they showcase material from their debut album.

Helping to revive the spirit of attending shows, the Mosaic Music Series is opening its venue up to audiences who meet certain safety criteria. These ticketed gigs are open to those who have completed their full vaccination. For those not fully vaccinated, pre-event testing (PET) within 24 hours before the end of each performance is compulsory. Seating capacity will also be limited due to safe management measures, so do hurry if you wish to snag a spot.
