The faint light at the end of the tunnel continues to flicker. While party culture is still buried in the dirt, live gigs in Singapore have had better luck in their tepid recovery. Audiences have begun to return to live concerts, and the prospect of reduced social restrictions has been floating around with recent pilot events.

Capitalising on this opportune streak is an upcoming large-scale, double bill concert called Majulah Live x It’s A Rap, happening on 19 March at Marina Bay Sands’ Sands Theatre. Chiefly organised by Base Entertainment Asia, the event is a major collaboration between Zendyll, Red Spade Entertainment, Drink Entertainment and National Youth Council. With their respective networks, they've put together a stacked show comprising heavyweight names in the Singaporean music scene.

On the Majulah Live front, it will feature a lineup of pop and r&b singer-songwriters comprising Rangga Jones, Feez., Joy Alexis, RRILEY and Jon Chua JX. The Majulah project has been an ongoing campaign by Zendyll, and it is currently pushing out the second season of the Majulah Weekender, a video series that pairs local artistes with producers.

Switching things up is It’s A Rap, which as you’d expect, is the hip-hop-centric segment of the double show. On the roster are trendsetting personalities including Fariz Jabba, Yung Raja and AE$OP CA$H. These young guns are joined by homegrown icons of the genre, ShiGGa Shay as well as Singapore’s own “godfather of hip-hop”, Sheikh Haikel.

Majulah Live x It’s A Rap has yet one more trick up its sleeve, and that’s the addition of local comedians who will host the event. Taking the stage with their quips and wisecracks are Fakkah Fuzz, Jacky Ng and Qamarul Haziq.

Majulah Live first hit the gig circuit in November 2020 when it was organised as a standalone concert in conjunction with Collective Minds Asia. However, in line with stricter social distancing guidelines at the time, it was only broadcast as a digital concert. Majulah Live x It’s A Rap will now take that established vision one step further with the presence of live audiences and a beefed-up bill that celebrates the evolution of local music.
