CAKE x UPLOADING: Music, Art & Theatre Unite In A Spectacle At Pasir Panjang Power Station

Intriguant has always gone the extra mile in his headstrong pursuits. A champion of the beatmaker and electronic producer community, the accomplished stalwart – who just released his new music video, “Your Love” – constructed his UPLOADING series to showcase this goldmine of talent, from its debut at Choice Cuts Goods + Coffee in mid-2019 to its recent UPLOADING NOW streams on Singapore Community Radio. On 13 March, the series collaborates with contemporary performance company, CAKE, to unleash a new chapter with a mega shift in magnitude, embarking on a full-day live event (you read that right) at the gigantic Pasir Panjang Power Station.

Those of you who attended the Alex Blake Charlie Sessions can attest to the massive anatomy of this venue. This repurposed urban playground will be the site of Intriguant’s latest feat, a collaboration with CAKE’s Running with Strippers platform that will pair music acts with video artists. Dubbed Running with Strippers 2021: This Close, the major event promises a grippingly diverse range of distinctive genres and personas, with pairings including Cayenne x JJ Low, deførmed x Clarrot, sl_owtalk x Yeyoon Avis Ann, BGourd x Tristan Lim, Kribo x Natasha Hassan, and Jema x orderstudio. It’s a scope that entails outlandish electronica, old-school hip-hop, vicious noise-rock, lustrous hyper-pop and more; complemented with boggling, wondrous visuals.

Alongside these performances, this event will feature two audio-visual installations set up in the gargantuan space. Planet by Kota Yamaji x CULT will combine kaleidoscopic visuals with Shakespearean sonnets and speeches from four actresses. Meanwhile, you have SOMNI conceptualised by Intriguant himself, a boxed installation billed as “an experiential route to the depths of slumber, probing how the perceptions within carve consequences onto our realities”.

The whole event will adhere to safe distancing measures at all times, with staggered timings and two zones that split the audience in the music area. With compromise and immaculate preparation, CAKE and UPLOADING are helping to breathe new life into a snuffed scene.
