Another new year, another new contender to jazz up the scene. But far from some overnight sensation dipping its mitts into the cookie jar for the first time, this fresh concept is being unboxed by a devoted crew that house and techno punters would be familiar with. Launching on 8 February is .KRATE, a city-pegged club space by the .KORSAIR team.

If that’s a name that rings bells, then unmistakably, your party feelers are already on the right frequency. Founded by globetrotting maverick, Erwin Linden – he’s repped the red dot at everywhere from Berlin’s Sisyphos to the beaches of Koh Phangan – .KORSAIR has been a steady contributor in the promotion circuit. Its raves have popped up at spots all over the island, including Tempura Oji, 1927, The Great Escape and Canvas. And now with the unveiling of .KRATE at Suntec Convention Centre (who would’ve thought?), .KORSAIR seems to have a rooted space to call home.

Kicking off the programming which is currently positioned as a fortnightly concept, the opening night of .KRATE – also spearheaded by Honore Soumet and Konrad Wehinger – is being headlined by Nakadia, undeniably one of Thailand’s top techno exports. Not a stranger to our shores, Nakadia will be making her comeback alongside enlivened sets from Algorhythm chieftain, James Selva, and Erwin Linden himself.

“The idea of .KRATE was inspired  by the atmosphere and emotions I felt in places I frequented while touring; two cities in particular were Koh Phangan and Berlin,” Erwin shares on the concept’s inception. “The name is derived from the word ‘Crate’ as we aim to put patrons into our own ‘.KRATE’, transporting them to a destination unknown.”
