Like an effective flying-kick-and-sweep combo, two of the scene’s brightest collectives are pulling off a tag-team jamboree to start the year. By now, you should be familiar with Ice Cream Sundays as spry trendsetters when it comes to day parties on the island. And few entities carry as much party clout as Darker Than Wax, known for its eclectic repertoire as a global imprint and boogie promoter. Coming together like butter on toast is the fourth edition of their collaborative Open Door series, taking place in yet another novel location that puts the scene on its toes.

Happening on 27 January during the Chinese New Year festivities, Open Door #4 invites all post-feast revellers to 2 Cavan Road, a former ship repairs factory in the oft-surprising Jalan Besar neighbourhood. The rejuvenated heritage space from the 1930s has been garnering hype lately thanks to the curation of Singapore Arts Club, which is currently using the space to host its TWENTY TWENTY exhibition. Alongside these pop-up art installations, Ice Cream Sundays and Darker Than Wax will breathe new life into this gritty, warehouse-like venue – a godsend for any raver.

Both collectives are only as strong as their respective rosters of residents, and you can expect almost all of them at this strong, genre-cruising event. The three musketeers of Bongomann, Muto Masashi and Toppings represent the ICS crew, while DTW will feature Daryl Knows, E R I, Funk Bast*rd, Kaye, RAH and William J. Can we expect any surprise back-to-backs? Will we get a rare Cosa Nostra showcase? Will Bongomann finally bring bongos to his set? Who knows? (Daryl, perhaps).

But what I do know is when either of these outfits throws a party, the results are off the hook with positive vibes cranked up to 11. Leave your bad juju at the door, and venture into a feel-good fiesta done right by these masters of their trade.
