In these volatile times, everyone’s doing their bit to adapt in the music industry, from promoters curating digital lifestyle programmes to DJs streaming their sets live from home. Recreating a rave in a virtual world, however, is something that’s yet to be done locally, and Darker Than Wax is stepping up to do just that with a little help from Habbo.

You can create your own party avatar in Habbo

For those not in the know, Habbo is a free online game where you can create an avatar, construct or visit rooms, and make friends while you’re at it through chats and activities. It’s not a particularly new fad; in fact, Habbo’s been around since the noughties but has lately seen a revival thanks to the recent lockdown restrictions worldwide. It’s not quite Animal Crossing, but it’s still a neat platform that’s endured and aged rather well, even for say, a boogie in a courtyard.

Such a setting is, of course, the beloved partygrounds of BREW, the signature series between Darker Than Wax and Chye Seng Huat Hardware. The habitat has been painstakingly recreated by the team to complement their next BREW party happening on 30 May, featuring the talented roster of DTW residents as well as a special guest yet to be revealed. The sets will be streamed live from the selectors’ homes on Twitch, in conjunction with the digitally recreated world in Habbo, to generate a fully interactive experience that brings the community even closer together.

Frankly, I’ve never participated in anything quite like this before and I doubt many of you have. Who knows what bizarre things will transpire in this unique endeavour? Tuning in is the only way to find out.
