The COVID-19 crisis in Singapore has sure taken a toll on the local music scene, with plenty of event cancellations and venue closures – even the grand Marquee Singapore wasn’t spared. Grimly, one more victim has fallen into the jaws of this unpredictable beast; Telok Ayer Arts Club will be having its closing party on 27 March, following a brilliant run that started in the fourth quarter of 2018.

You can read about the allure of Telok Ayer Arts Club in this feature, but to sum it up, the soon-to-be-missed space has been a versatile, multi-disciplinary hub for culinary treats, inventive cocktails, art exhibitions and even avant-garde gigs. Not many locations bridge this hodgepodge of passions together seamlessly, but this daring habitat was liberal in its experimentation; forward-thinking behaviour that made a hefty impression in the scene.

The ongoing uncertainty from COVID-19 has put the venue in a bind, and it has announced its temporary closure scheduled for next week. But instead of a disheartening “toodles”, Telok Ayer Arts Club intends to end on a high note with one last edition of its Kelab Malam series. Veteran music director, Mr. Has, will be dishing out a send-off soundtrack of funk, disco, house, hip-hop and more with an ensemble of mystery guests in tow. All these revelries will be complemented with visual works from artist, Goh Abigail, along with the nibbles and tipples that’ve made Telok Ayer Arts Club a standout establishment in the city.

There isn’t much time left, so you’d best swing by this spot once more before it takes its bow. Hopefully, we’ll get to see it again soon.
