Like an anticipated sequel waiting to be unboxed, the next powered-up iteration of Nineteen80 is locked and loaded. Due to the disruptive nature of the COVID-19 crisis, however – with nightspots forced to shut down all over town – it looks like revellers will have to hide it out before they can check out the expanded and refurbished discotheque that’s made the ’80s rad again. You can plunge into my review feature of Nineteen80 if you haven’t yet.

Now a four-unit space (going large from its former one-unit configuration), the neon-soaked party pad in Tanjong Pagar features several additions that’s certain to please everyone – from the jitterbugs and cocktail-sippers, to the button-mashers and chit-chatters. There are new areas to explore, including a Miami Vice-inspired Living Room with a playable Atari and an extended tunnel entrance that takes visual cues from TRON. A bigger dancefloor provides more breathing and elbow space for the retro-craving carousers, and there is now a second bar that stocks a revitalised cocktail menu starring original, colourful concoctions.

In the meantime, sit tight, play plenty of video games, and stay safe. You’ll want to be in the pink of health to check out Nineteen80 once this virus blows over.

P.S. At the time of writing, Nineteen80 remains closed in light of the ongoing nightlife restrictions.
