Talk about a Kult that’s positively growing. Entering the scene with gusto is Kult Yard, a new endeavour from the trend-bending peeps behind Kult Kafe. Those of you who frequent the latter’s colonial-styled mansion on Emily Hill would be familiar with its past daytime shindigs like Sunday On The Hill, and other pop-up jaunts that range from vinyl markets to salsa under the stars. Not to mention, the independent art gallery, Kult Studio & Gallery, that it houses, which has been a core pillar of the Kult identity since its inception as a creative agency in 2007.

Now, the culture vultures continue to turn heads with a new digs on Pearl’s Hill Terrace, in a former police headquarters, no less. And to mark this new chapter with Kult Yard, the offbeat crew is organising a three-day opening weekender from 18 to 20 October, stuffed with tunage, tastes, and a live graffiti bombing...?

Yup, you read that right. Because nothing is ever out of the question in their pursuits, the police building will be shaken up by a motley crew of street artists – these include Slacsatu (Zinc Nite Crew), Song, Boon, Hasj, Didier Jaba Mathieu (Ultra Boyz), Kilas and MCS ANTZ (Rscls) – spurring on a transformation right before your very eyes. Such enthused energy requires a spirited soundtrack, and it’s being aptly led by a seasoned ensemble of selectors – Funk Bast*rd, Rah, The Gonzo, MissT, and the Pushin’On Crew of Tom Shellsuit, Chunk and Dave Code. Supporting them will be the accordion-anchored world music of The Lost Hat.

String all of that together with Japanese street food from Saikō, vegetarian cuisine from Taste of Kult and bevvies from Brocksman Gin, and you have yourself a jubilant opening celebration that will have both your stomach and soul full. It’s shaping up to be one heck of a hill-warming, with Kult Yard all set to open its doors.
