In a musical terrain saturated with in-the-box producers and beatmakers, those who embrace the traditions of hardware are a welcome abnormality. There’s always something enthralling about watching the physical dissemination of electronic sounds, orchestrated by a balancing act of buttons, knobs, faders and keys. ANVBS is one such master of analogue, and he enters the cockpit in this week’s edition of the 15-Min Flash Mix.

Pronounced “anubis”, ANVBS is an enigmatic composer who honours the traditions of hardware, using his equipment – like the Behringer TD-3, Roland TR-8 and Korg Volca Keys – as conduits of techno. Often, you can watch his live jam sessions on his YouTube channel, offering a first-person view of how these gadgets work. Unrestrained by a DAW, ANVBS pieces together miniature (and sometimes, extended) sets in organic fashion, providing an intimate perspective of how electronic music is constructed element by element. He’s even begun fiddling with the art of production, and it’s only a matter of time till we get to uncover his originals.

Aboard the 15-Min Flash Mix, ANVBS applies these techniques while connected with a DJ setup, blasting out a hybrid set that will take you back to the clubs. Acid is a dominant ingredient you’ll find in this rush, hitting the surface with bendy, squelching hooks that blare and stutter. Combined with tough-as-nails, projectile beats and hypnotic vocal loops, and you have a peaktime techno experience that’s sweaty and unforgiving. Punch it up. This is the 15-Min tale of ANVBS.
