Some bands don outlandish stage outfits to get into character. And then you have the purrfect antics of Ultra Mega Cat Attack, a band that slaps on – you guessed it – feline masks.

But despite their furry miens, there’s zero fluff when it comes to the delivery of their tough-as-nails sound. As a robust six-piece, these prowling wildcats spew out a classic alt-rock aesthetic that strikes with the nostalgia of a weathered but undefeatable era. They channel the rambunctious spirit of good ol’ rock without pulling any punches, unleashing a full-powered first impact that leaves a dent – claw marks and all.

Instances of this feisty temperament lie in their string of singles, defined by powerhouse female vocals and weighty alt-rock arrangements.  Their debut release, “009”, is a sweaty, tattered jam that slices with monstrous riffs and crusty Blues licks, with impish lyricism about leaving fools behind in its trail of dust. “STAY.GO” is a riotous anthem about busting out of a rut, armed with flaming guitars and an unstoppable rhythm section with highway-chasing momentum. And on their latest single, “All Or Nothing”, the band puts on a main event performance loaded with more spunk and sass, with massive synchronised guitar and bass lines that would make Muse blush.

These songs truly shine in their live gigs, and they’ve shown this atomic energy with performances at Baybeats as one of its budding bands, Tiger Beer’s Fire Stage concert series, and Urban Sonic by IMC Live Global and *SCAPE. Ultra Mega Cat Attack also made headlines in 2020 as one of the top five finalists in Vans Musicians Wanted Singapore, beating over 400 other entries in Singapore for the coveted spots. The band is also in the midst of prepping their debut album, slated for release later this year. So you’d best be ready to hear them roar when the time is ripe.
